Happy Endings for Maya
I just wanted to write and give you an update on the first day (expect
more to
come). We got home last night and Maya did an amazing job with our
cats!! They
were surprised to see her, but Maya ignored them. Bonzai (our older
cat) decided that he hated being ignored more than anything, and has already
tried to be friends! Bonkers (the more skittish) is still adjusting - he
wants
to be in the same room as Maya, even a few feet away to watch her, but
gives a
little hiss when Maya moves too quickly, gets too close, or is having too
much
fun. She slept on her own bed last night which allowed the cats to have their
normal place on our bed. She seemed very comfortable and slept very well.
Apparently Maya's fascination with squirrels applies to rabbits as well - she
has seen 3 or 4 has a bit of an obsession. She wants to stare out the
window at
the last place she saw them, or continually walk to that area in the hopes
that
they are still there! This
morning we went for a run in the open space and
later we went to the 400 acre dog park down the street; she did great off
leash
and with the other dogs! She loved playing fetch, enjoyed bounding over the
rocks, bushes, and through the field. She also loved running into the very
muddy pond! She didn't seem to want to go swimming when she couldn't
touch the
bottom, but loved watching the other dogs chase their balls deeper into the
creek and the pond. We got home and discovered that Maya is very good about
taking baths. She didn't mind the bath water and seemed to enjoy the rub
down.
We are looking forward to another walk this evening with once Dad gets
home from
work! She seems to follow me around and think of Brandon as a bit of a
playmate
- she gets very excited when walks into a room or if he wants to play!
We will be heading to my parents house tomorrow afternoon and we will see how
their dog does with Maya - we are very hopeful that with her calm
disposition he
won't be fearful around her. Maya has a lot of family and friends to meet in
the next few days so it should be a very exciting time for her! We will send
more pictures to let you know how she is doing once she has had a little more
time to adjust!
Thanks again for everything and I will write to you again soon!

The first picture is of Maya resting after our fun at the dog park, while our
older cat has just decided to curl up on the couch above her.
The second is the more skittish cat watching as Maya rolls on the floor.
