July 3, 2009 - Recently, BDAR was involved in the rescue of seven 8 week old mixed breed puppies from an extremely overcrowded and understaffed shelter in central Wyoming. This litter was found underneath a porch after their mother was shot dead by an angry neighbor. The puppies were filthy, scared, hungry, and unvaccinated. Had they been forced to stay in this shelter the likelihood of them contracting the deadly parvo or distemper viruses was very high. Although our few foster homes were already full, the caring and committed volunteers of BDAR rose to the occasion to help these at-risk babies and bring them to safety!
As anyone who as ever raised a puppy knows, they are a lot of work. Although we’ve now split the litter up in to groups of one or two and spread them out among our foster homes, they are still going to require a great deal of our limited resources to care for them. It is estimated that, prior to adoption, each puppy will incur a cost of approximately $200 worth of vet care, food and other supplies. While we are glad to help, these little fur balls are going to put quite a lot of strain on BDAR’s available funds. We are seeking donations to cover the cost of these puppies’ vaccinations, spays and neuters, microchips and food and supplies. Please, if you care for our cause and support the No-Kill philosophy, consider helping us help these lovely puppies.
The babies are mixed breeds. They have some Chesapeake Bay retriever, some Golden retriever, and some Border collie. Some are yellow and some are a dark, russet brown. They have a little curl to their fur. Due to the fact that we anticipate a great deal of interest in these pups, we will not be accepting applications for them until they have been fully vetted. Please check back to see when the pups will be available for placement.
If you’d like to make a donation, please contact us at 214-6600 or e-mail bdar@bdar.org. Or, you may pledge money for the puppies to Cheyenne Pet Clinic. Thank you for supporting us in our life-saving mission!
