Happy Endings for Chamberlain (now known as Doobie)
Here are a couple of pictures of Doobie. He is adjusting very well and
has integrated into our "pack" here without issues.
He played well with
the other dogs we boarded over the Xmas holiday. He learned his new name quickly and responds to it well. He comes when called, knows some basic
obedience (someone taught him that in the past - maybe his foster mom?). Overall, we think he is a pretty awesome dog.
We think that his breed is probably Pudlepointer. The Griffon and
Wirehaird Pointer breeds do not come in the color black. His head is
shaped a little different too. The Pudlepointer is a fairly rare
breed
and is not recognized by the AKC yet - but the "club" is very protective
of the bloodlines and not really interested in being part of the AKC
family.
I am guessing that he was a member of a family somewhere that spent some
quality time with him as he is very friendly and takes it for granted that
people are going to pet him. It is too bad that they didn't try harder to
keep him in a secure area when outside.
He is a 'jumper' and can easily clear five feet without hesitation.
Knowing that, we do not let him outside the back yard for een a minute
without supervision. He is very curious about our ducks, geese, etc. so
may have a natural hunters instincts. Roger is taking him and our Spinone
hunting in a couple of weeks. I will let you know how it goes.
I hope you had a wonderful holiday and will have a great new year.
Mary Jo
